My name is Anton, and I\u2019m a <\/span>talkoholic<\/span><\/i>. Not a typo. Some folks fancy fast cars or hunt for rare Jordans. I collect good conversations.<\/span><\/p>\n

When I first stumbled into design more than seven years ago, all starry-eyed with a cracked copy of Photoshop CC 2019 and no clue what a grid system was, I kept wondering\u2014what\u2019s my <\/span>thing<\/span><\/i>? Everyone had a signature. A trademark move. I wanted mine. Turns out, I had it all along: curiosity, empathy, and this <\/span>urge<\/span><\/i> to connect. To ask the right question. To say the quiet part out loud.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, that\u2019s what I do. I talk. I ask. I listen. And weirdly enough, that makes me a better designer.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Design Starts With People, Not Pixels<\/h2>\n

Great design isn\u2019t just about layouts, gradients, or whatever\u2019s trending on Dribbble this week. Behind every vague brief is a real person trying to solve <\/span>a real problem<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Every \u201ccan we make it more premium?\u201d is someone trying to justify their price tag. Every \u201cmake it pop\u201d is a business owner worried their product will be overlooked. Every \u201clike Apple, but different\u201d is a brand stuck between admiration and an identity crisis. That\u2019s where I come in.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before a project even starts, I do a little research. Not in a creepy Joe Goldberg way\u2014just enough to get a sense of who I\u2019m about to work with. A quick scroll through their LinkedIn, a peek at their travel blog, or that one Insta post with their dog and a surfboard. Anything that tells me: this is a <\/span>person<\/span><\/i>, not a <\/span>task<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then come the small talks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy kid renamed all my Figma files.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cThe dog\u2019s barking on every Zoom call today.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cSorry, I\u2019m in a caf\u00e9, and they\u2019re playing Taylor Swift again.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

You laugh. They laugh. Something clicks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When someone sees you as a human, they stop treating you like a service provider. They start collaborating. Real things get built.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why I Choose Conversation Over Convenience<\/h2>\n

If it\u2019s between a call and a seventeen-thread email spiral with missing context and smiley-face sign-offs, I\u2019ll take the call. Not because it\u2019s faster\u2014because it\u2019s human. During those, I ask questions. What\u2019s unclear? What matters most to them? What would make this project a win in their eyes? I don\u2019t <\/span>assume<\/span><\/i>. I don\u2019t design for <\/span>numbers. <\/span><\/i>My audience is real people.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, forget the Medium think pieces, SEO-stuffed \u201810 UI Principles\u2019 listicles, and cookie-cutter design bootcamps. The stuff that actually makes projects work is messier, softer, and harder to fake.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what stuck with me\u2014through deadlines, pivots, and one too many Google Docs:<\/span><\/p>\n

– People remember how you made them feel, not the font you used.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Do your homework. A bit of client research goes a long way in building real dialogue.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Don\u2019t skip the small talk\u2014it\u2019s the foundation of trust.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Listen to <\/span>understand<\/span><\/i>, not to <\/span>respond<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

– And above all: ask \u201c<\/span>Why<\/span><\/i> does this matter to them?\u201d, not \u201cHow fast can I finish this?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
